Ella Minnow Pea is such a strange and fantastical book. Every now and then you encounter these alternate world books where people love reading and writing and words as much as writers do. They are always a strange slice of the inside of another writer's head. I'd say Ella and the first Thursday Next book are two of the classics of this literary subgenre.
